As a result of the Panel meeting on 14 December your new priority Sawley is:

1) Prevention of burglaries, shed breaks and thefts in Old Sawley and the Dales Estate.

Your previous priority profiles (parking issues on Mikado road and ASB around Mills Dock Yard) are now closed, due to residents stating there are no further issues.

If you have any information or wish to discuss the priority please contact your Sawley Neighbourhood Team on 101

We would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and thank you for all your help throughout the year.

This is a general reminder about distraction burglaries.

Never allow any unknown person into your house that turns up without an appointment without checking them out first.

Always check they have identity if they represent a company or social services. Don't let the person in until you have verified this with the organisation they work for using a telephone number from a phone book.

Never be panicked into letting someone in with stories of a water leak or a lost dog.

If you are alone it is a good idea is to have an agreement with a trusted neighbour or family member to come around to be with you when someone calls. Or for the caller to contact this person first.

Your best defence is to just be aware that these crimes do happen, but they are rare. Any bogus caller will soon move on if they feel you are aware of them.

If you suspect you have been targeted by a bogus caller contact the police immediately on 999 and if possible give a description of the offender and any vehicle they may be using

Leaving articles on show in your car is never a good thing particularly in view of the recent increase in thefts of and from motor vehicles. Hot spots appear to be Trent Lock Golf Club and vehicle car parks near to the Navigation pub.  “If you see any suspicious activity, please report it to the Police immediately on 0115 946 1672 or 0177 357 0100.”

Keep safe and be safe and thank you for reading this article.
