The following is an update to the priority profiles in the Sawley Safer Neighbourhood area.

You said: Anti-social behaviour in the area of Sawley underpass.

We did: Patrols were increased in the area, graffiti was removed from the site & the children involved in anti-social behaviour & criminal damage were spoken to.

We are currently working alongside Derbyshire County Council & Erewash Borough Council regarding a long-term plan to resurface all of the underpass area.

Since this work began we have seen a reduction in calls to the police & the graffiti has not reappeared.

You said: Speeding vehicles on Draycott Road.

We did: Regular speed checks were carried out, advice letters were sent to speeding drivers & fines were issued where appropriate.

Derbyshire County Council has placed "Police speed check area" signs along Draycott Road as a deterrent to speeding motorists.

We are now seeing a reduction in speed along the road & fewer complaints from local people.
The long-term plan for this priority issue includes the installation of a flashing speed sign by Derbyshire County Council, & we will be continuing our patrols & speed checks along the road.

Officers from the Sawley Safer Neighbourhood Team have been working with local young people to introduce a fishing project to the area.

The idea was to setup a fishing project that would kit out ten 11 - 17 year olds so that they could enjoy fishing at weekends and school holidays.

Three weekend dates were organised to see what the reaction would be from local children. There was a good turnout at all of the sessions and those who attended managed to catch fish at Barkers Pond in Sawley.

It has been postponed for the winter but will be restarted again in the Spring and would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in getting involved.

A pilot scheme that allows you to send a text to the 999 UK emergency services will begin this autumn. We want as many people to register as possible - but only people who cannot manage normal voice calls.

If you have a hearing loss or have difficulty talking you can registered and be able to use the service in emergencies during this pilot.

This is a general reminder about distraction burglaries.

Never allow any unknown person into your house that turns up without an appointment without checking them out first.

Always check they have identity if they represent a company or social services. Don't let the person in until you have verified this with the organisation they work for using a telephone number from a phone book.

Never be panicked into letting someone in with stories of a water leak or a lost dog.

If you are alone it is a good idea is to have an agreement with a trusted neighbour or family member to come around to be with you when someone calls. Or for the caller to contact this person first.

Your best defence is to just be aware that these crimes do happen, but they are rare. Any bogus caller will soon move on if they feel you are aware of them.

If you suspect you have been targeted by a bogus caller contact the police immediately on 999 and if possible give a description of the offender and any vehicle they may be using

Hot spots appear to be Trent Lock Golf Club and vehicle car parks near to the Navigation pub.  “If you see any suspicious activity, please report it to the Police immediately on 0115 946 1672 or 0177 357 0100.”
