Newsletter 1
September 2007

Welcome back to the new school year. We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. A special welcome to new families who have joined us this term - our newsletter is designed to keep you informed of school notices, events happening in school and dates of importance that we would ask you to note in your diaries.

Dinner money. A reminder that school meals are now £1.70 per day (£8.50 per week) and cash or cheques (payable to D.C.C.) should be brought in on a Monday in a sealed envelope with the child's name on to help with our administration. You are welcome to pay for more than one week at a time if this is more convenient for you.
Please let us know if you are eligible for free school meals even if your child chooses to have sandwiches.
You are eligible if you are in receipt of Income Support or Income-based Job Seekers Allowance.

Absence. May I remind all parents that if your child is sick and unable to come to school you should ring the school office to let us know. It is the school's policy that we should be kept informed of the children's whereabouts at all times, ensuring that your children are safe and cared for. You can ring the office on 0115 9733626 from 8.30am.

Playground safety. Please could you make sure your children enter/exit school via the pedestrian gates each day. We would also appreciate it if younger children at the end of the day do not ride around the playground on bikes/scooters etc. Thank you.

Contact telephone numbers. If you have any more changes to contact details please let the office know as soon as possible. All details are kept confidential.

P.E. kit. Children need to have their P.E. kit (shorts, T-shirt, plimsolls) in school every Monday until their P.E. lesson takes place, preferably in a draw-string bag hung on their coat peg. P.E. is really enjoyable so please make sure your child takes part. The teachers will be checking P.E. kit every week.

Jewellery. Children are only allowed to wear one small pair of earrings and a wrist watch. No other jewellery is allowed. All earrings must be removed for PE and swimming.

Individual and family photographs. These will be taken on Wednesday 19th September. All orders need to be returned by Monday 3rd October.

Book fair. This will take place w/c 15th October after school from 3.10-3.30pm. It will also be open during parents' evening. Everyone welcome.

Year 3 open morning. Friday 19th October 9-9.30am. This is for all year 3 parents to come into their classroom to view the children's work and meet their teachers.

Harvest festival will take place on Friday 12th October at 9.15am. We are asking for all children to bring in either a tin or packet of food. This will then be distributed by the Salvation Army. All parents are welcome to attend.

Parents evening will take place on Thursday 18th October from 3.45pm until 7pm. More details to follow. This is to see your child's class teacher only.

Uniform orders. We have most sizes in stock; please send any orders to the office.

Friends of Sawley Junior School AGM will take place in school on Thursday 27th September at 9am. Everyone is welcome to the AGM. The Friends of Sawley Junior School are always looking for new members and are a vital part of the school helping to raise funds for extra activities that the children take part in. Why not join?

Eco School. We are applying to become an ECO school. As part of the requirement we need to form a committee of people from the local community. It can be parents, carers or other relatives or friends of children at school. Can you help? It would involve one meeting a term. If you are interested please see Mrs Stead (Year 3 teacher).

Tesco will be giving out sports vouchers from Monday 10th September. Please bring any vouchers to the office. Last time we collected 10,000 vouchers; let's see if we can get more this time!!!

After school clubs we will be running this term are:

PACE club, Guitar, Netball Year 5&6 Mondays
Vocal Zone Tuesdays
Multi sports year 3 & 4, Football-Year 6 Wednesdays

How can you help your child?
